Ready, Set - GO!

What was supposed to be a significant gathering of classmates turned out to be a small, but very productive meeting on August 30, 2008. With seven classmembers in attendance, decisions were made for the 30-year class reunion. The date of July 11, 2009 was chosen to "GET THE PARTY STARTED!" The plan includes an invitation to the Class of 1978 to join with us and to have a member of that class be the entertainment. Johnny Barron was selected as the band/group to provide our musical entertainment. The festivities will get underway on Friday night, July 10th for those that make it into Troy early. We will gather at the Pines Restaurant and catch-up. Depending on the number of people that plan to attend and (purchase their tickets), we may be able to have a small catered picnic on the CHHS campus and walk around a reminisce about 1979 and the changes that have taken place, not only on the campus, in Troy, but with us individually in the last 30 years. The Troy Country Club will provide the digs for dancing and fun on Saturday night. Johnny will play all of our favorite songs (both old and new) and we will see if some of us have learned how to dance in 30 years (LOL). It should be a fun time and a very sepcial time. So, be sure and mark your calendars, line up a baby sitter, get out that party dress and dancing shoes, make a beeline to Troy and "LET's DO THIS THING!"

Help of Friends

I could not imagine planning an event, like our 30th Class Reunion, without a little help.... make that a lot of help from my friends. Until you have attempted to plan an event like this, you cannot begin to understand how much you don't think about. First, there is "the place". What place, in Troy, Alabama, can handle an event that anticipates anywhere from 50-150 people? Second, "the date". When can we have an important event like this that will allow as many people as possible to attend? Possibilities are endless and seemingly impossible at the same time.

Once a date has been set and a place secured, then what? There is food, there is entertainment, and there are the other small events/things that make the larger event more memorable. But, there are the "behind the scenes" things that sometimes make or break an event. In this day of legal trauma, there is a matter of insurance (especially where alcohol is involved) and security. We have to insure that the facility is protected. We have to insure that we, the people, are protected. We want everyone to enjoy the event and be able to return safely from whence they came. People make messes! Who will be responsible for cleaning up after the event is over. If someone is paid to clean, how do you trust that it will be cleaned to the satisfaction of the facility owners?

If not for all of your friends and mine that have stepped up and helped think about all of these different things, this event might not happen. This event is going to happen and it will be a "great thing". As the Beez so eloquently put it, "We are great, we are fine! We are the Class of '79!"

Countdown to 30

Back in late 2004, when Mark Davis contacted me about our 25th class reunion, little did I know what kind of response and interest this class would have in remaining in contact with one another. Most of us have scattered to the four winds and rarely get a chance to see each other. From the 15 or 20 information sheets that were left over from the 20th reunion, I set out (with the help of countless others) to roundup as many classmates as possible to celebrate (although a year late) our 25th year after graduating from dear old "Chuck High". In 2005, we were able to have 26 of our some 175 classmates attend a gathering at Troy University in September, 2005. We vowed to try to have something annually, for as many as could attend. As it has turned out, we have managed to hold true to that promise. In 2006 and 2007, the gatherings were small. The upside to that was there were new attendees that were not able to make it in 2005. As we quickly approach that 30 year milestone, a number of your classmates have been working diligently behind the scenes to make this event something to remember. We are working to secure a venue, food choices, entertainment, and other events to mark this point in our legacy. Stay tuned, we have more to come...
